Last-minute 2021 Holiday Travel Tips

Chances are, if you're traveling for the holidays this week, your gifts have already been purchased, your flights are booked and you're in the final stages of prepping for your trip. So here are some last minute tips to help you maintain your sanity during your travel:

Lines will be long at the airport. We traveled two weeks before Christmas and the line to check baggage was over an hour long and the security line was another hour long. Prepare by:

  • Consider only packing a carry-on. Look to see what your airline allows and see if you can fit everything in a carry-on.

  • If that's not an option, plan on arriving earlier than you normally would. Give yourself plenty of cushion in case the lines are hours long.

Bring your COVID necessities:

  • Bring masks for everyone (and spares!) Airports and airlines still require masks so make sure you bring your mask and keep some extra ones on hand in case one gets dirty.

  • Bring those vaccination cards too! Some destinations require proof of vaccination to dine or enter businesses so be prepared and bring your card or a picture of your card.

Communicate the travel day's plan with your entire travel party.

  • This sounds like a no-brainer but make sure to set expectations on when to be ready to leave, when you'll eat and what the day looks like. Traveling during the holidays is already stressful enough. Making sure everyone is on the same page will help to ease the stress, just a little.
