From January to March is the best time to book your cruise travel. In the industry we call this “Wave Season”, and no it’s not because you’re waving goodbye to your paycheck.
It’s actually the opposite, during this time of year, the travel industry has a few “waves” of sales. These sales are designed to ensure that going into the new year every sailing is as booked as possible. Often, you’ll find lower fares or perks like free upgrades or on-board credit! If you’re looking to take advantage of Wave Season here’s a few things I suggest:
Sail during off-peak times. Spring Break, Thanksgiving Break, and holiday time sailings are some of the most in demand. Those sailings sell out quickly, are subject to less discounts or perks, and tend to be higher in price. Sailing off peak can help you drive your costs lower and get you more perks.
If you have to sail during peak times (as a mom I get it), try to book as far in advance as possible. It’s only December of 2024 but this Wave Season I’ll be shopping for my Spring Break 2026 cruise. An added perk of booking that far out is you’ll have a longer time to pay off your cruise.
Be flexible on room types. Personally, I love to sail with a balcony but I’m not particular about where on the ship I’m located. During Wave Season, guaranteed cabins are often at an even greater discount than fares where you select your cabin in advance. If you’re like me and think any cabin on the ship is a great cabin, a guaranteed cabin might just be for you.
If you already have a cruise booked, make sure you’re talking to your travel advisor about the other benefits during Wave Season. Drink packages, excursions, specialty dining, and more may go on sale. As a travel advisor, we can also see if we can apply the Wave Season discount on your already booked sailing!
If you’re looking to book this Wave Season, make sure to reach out to your preferred Carry on the Magic travel advisor. Happy sailing!
